That Moment

I know it when I see it. When I’m working, there’s a part of my brain that runs constantly in the background, subconsciously, scanning the scene, looking for moments. Moments. Milliseconds of time that are gone in half a heartbeat, blink and I’ve missed it. They’re always there – sandwiched between minutes, isolated among the hustle and bustle and movement that makes up every wedding day. And it takes a certain kind of interest and instinct to seek that moment. To know that moment when it appears. And to focus in and take that photograph moment before it’s gone, literally forever.

That moment. That’s what interests me. That’s what pulls at me. That’s why I photograph weddings. I am looking for the subtext within the story. The calm within the storm. And it happens SO fast, that I have to be always ready. One shot is all I have. And one shot is all it takes. Without these moments, you still have the story, of course you do. But with these moments, you have the novel, the complete picture, the love story as told so that you, and all who come after, will remember. Photographers are historians. They’re memory makers. They’re storytellers.

If you’re looking for a wedding photographer, as yourself – are you looking to invest in someone who just takes pretty pictures? Someone who can just “do the job”? Or are you looking for someone who finds the moments. Who knows them when she sees them. And who operates not just on learned skill, understanding posing and lighting and how to make you look your best, but also on instinct, something that cannot be learned? Every photographer is unique – as we, as individuals, are unique – and that’s important. Because in a world flooded with options, sometimes the only thing that seems to discernibly sets one photographer apart from others appears to be price. But don’t be fooled. If you look closer, if you take some time to look at the whole picture – do you see the moments? Do you see the images that aren’t typical, the ones that tell the story in the quiet times as well as the planned and scheduled time? Do you see the difference? If that’s important to you, look no further. I am that photographer. Your photographer. And it’s your moments I am waiting to find.
