Kelly and Derrick were married on July 3rd, with a ceremony and reception at the Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa.
A Beautiful Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa Wedding
I have to say, Kelly was a great bride to work with. Right from the very beginning, she was super chill and so easy to get along with. From the very start of the day, as I photographed her getting ready at the resort, I knew this would be a wedding to remember. When you combine a great attitude with a focus on family, genuine love, and fabulous details, it’s always a recipe for an amazing wedding day. And, of course, the well-appointed rooms at the Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa offered a stunning backdrop while she prepared for the day.
Once Kelly and Derrick were ready, we staged a first look in the beautiful, tree-lined pathways. The moment these two saw each other for the first time was amazing. There was so much emotion and love to capture. It took my breath away! The Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa is such a romantic San Diego / Rancho Santa Fe wedding venue, full of beautiful opportunities for wedding portraits. We were able to take advantage of its arches and stone walls which were so reminiscent of a Tuscan country villa. The beautiful natural light made the moment truly unforgettable.
After the first look, we made sure to grab some family photos ahead of the ceremony. Getting these formal wedding portraits was particularly important to the bride and groom, because they are both family people. Family was involved in so many aspects of their wedding day.
Derrick’s daughter was a bridesmaid and got to dance with her father during the first dances. Kelly made sure to dance with both her mom and dad. At the end of their father/daughter dance, her father wrapped her up in a big hug. It was such a sweet, tender instance between a father and his little girl.
That love was also obvious in the speeches, which provided some of my favorite images of the day. The light was perfect and their facial expressions were spot-on. It makes me so happy to capture these moments!
I could go on and on about the amazing details that went into this wedding. From the dessert table to the wall of greenery decorated with real flowers to the lanterns that came out when darkness fell, I was never at a loss for something captivating to photograph. This whole wedding was a dream for a wedding photographer.
Kelly & Derrick, thank you for letting me be part of the first day of your Forever After. I loved getting swept up in the love that you share with each other and your families.
