Kelsey and David were married on November 12th, with a ceremony and reception at the Stillwell House and Gardens.
Since the couple didn’t want to see each other before the wedding, they had a “veiled first look.” They met with joined hands only, with a strong wooden door between them—and it was one of the more poignant moments of the day. With nothing but that door separating them, they shared a beautiful, quiet moment ringing with the building anticipation of the marriage to come. What a perfect way to start out the wedding day.
I was glad that they opted not to see each other beforehand, because the look on David’s face when he saw Kelsey walking down the aisle was nothing short of beautiful. And he even cried!
I also loved how much the two of them brought their families into the day. David’s brother brought his whole family—including all of his little girls—from Japan, and they were all in the wedding. They were a treat to watch walking down in aisle in dresses with pink bows, all giggly and sweet.
One of the best parts of the wedding besides the honest emotion was the fact that these two were one of the most adventurous couples I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing. That meant that they were up for just about anything as I directed them through pictures. We were able to utilize the brick, colorful doors, and urban streets of the neighborhoods surrounding Stillwell House as well as the natural beauty of an adjacent park after that. And of course, the house itself is stunning—I always love working in the historic home for its intimate feeling and exciting surroundings.
Add to that backdrop some absolutely beautiful flowers, and you have a photographer’s dream. I loved the floral arrangements as well as the vibrant colors of the Carriage House wall with the green doors. Like I said, I was giddy over so many great places to photograph! As my travels have taken me to California, I’m always looking for interesting Southern California wedding photography locations like these – historic homes, quaint locations, streets with character and charm!
Kelsey & David, thank you for letting me be part of your day. I’m always thrilled to have such genuine people as my clients, and I enjoyed getting to know you and bonding over our shared love of travel. Congratulations! I can’t imagine a better way for you to have started your Forever After.
